Hold the Vision, Trust the Process: How Does This Apply in Digital Marketing?
It’s been a long time since my last story on Medium.com, and I felt that this was the right time to share my thoughts, according to a recent experience of mine.
During my journey to the magical world of digital marketing as a professional, what I have encountered most often than anything else (even from campaigns, I know, wtf man…) was the rush.
The rush for everything:
→ From thinking to development (that's me and other colleagues)
→ From development to results (that’s me, the customers and managers)
→ From results to reconsideration of strategy (hey customers, me, managers, and other colleagues)
→ From reconsideration of strategy to redesign (hey again customers, me, managers, and other colleagues)
→ and then again, from the redesign of the strategy to results (hey all again)
Everyone is in an incredible hurry, customers, clients, agencies, everyone! Even me!
All the above cases are often caused by the panic that is created when things do not go as we please or as we expect. But to ask you something? when something is wrong or not performing well, do you make it or give up?
(Somewhere here you are in a confusion about whether the question is about your job or your personal life, right? keep reading)
You know what? We all forget something…
The more you hurry for results, the more you are disappointed if these results are not positive.
And the more you are disappointed, the more you are in a hurry to redesign your plans, thinking, and strategy.
And the more you hurry to redesign your plans and strategy, the more you lose your faith in the process.
And then, unless you are an experienced veteran of Digital Marketing, Project Management, Business Administration or Risk Management (in order to readjust your strategy and fight back the negative issues), you already have lost the game.
Someone told me once, according to a low-performing digital campaign which we really wanted to succeed:
Hold the Vision and Trust the Process.
This one was a (work) life saver.
He reminded me that sometimes, what we have to do is a step back, to look with a clear mind on what is really happening, what is what we need to achieve, and in any case not to lose our faith in our purpose. What we need to do is continue to fight for 100%.
Things do not happen overnight. Success does not happen overnight. Results do not happen overnight.
And, indeed, this was a tip according to a marketing strategy, but does it apply to other aspects of our lives? I will let you guess!
As for the low-performing digital campaign?
Guess what; I held the vision, I trusted the process, I continued to do what I knew better to do, and success came on its own, as long as I wished to change everything I had planned and designed for this campaign.
Yes, the environment in digital marketing is dynamic, changing quickly, multifactorial, sometimes we will have to redesign our strategy 2, 3 and 4 times, time will push, a deadline will hunt us.
Βut we should be there, pressing on a firm basis, with the help of our associates to make the best possible result.
Therefore, have faith in yourself, in your associates, in what you want to achieve. Never let the goal out of your eyes, do not stop holding your vision, and never lose faith in the process! Stay focused and remember:
They only source of knowledge is experience.
